Visible Learning: A Synthesis of Over 800 Meta-Analyses Relating to Achievement

Visible Learning: A Synthesis of Over 800 Meta-Analyses Relating to Achievement

By John Hattie, 2009

You will never been done reading or read cover to cover this book!  It is more of a handbook of sorts that a person goes back to over and over to reference.

The part I find the most handy is the rank order of the meta-analyses.  In other words, they took over 800 “things” that we do in schools and the measured which ones have the strongest effect on student achievement all the way down to practices that have a negative effect on student achievement.

This book helps me to focus on the things that are important, and to let go of the things that are not.  This is evidence, research, data and statistics that I can hang my hat on and use to back up decisions made at the school.  Additionally, Chief Supt Johnson, refers to this book when addressing principals.

Condition of the book: front cover bent, sticky notes everywhere, highlighted sections, some pages written on.
